Privacy Policy

Simple Industry (“Simple Industry,” “we,” “us”) provides a web application that helps small manufacturing shops decide what to produce. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to the application at app.simpleindustry.app.
Information we collect
- Account information. Your name, email address, and a hashed password, used to create and secure your account.
- Operational data you provide. The manufacturing data you enter or import, including parts, bills of materials, inventory levels, and sales history. Photos and documents you attach to a part, a material lot, or a job (stored with Cloudflare, our object storage provider) are part of this — see “Technical data” in our Terms of Service for what may not be uploaded.
- QuickBooks data (only if you connect QuickBooks). When you authorize the QuickBooks Online integration, we store OAuth access and refresh tokens (encrypted), and we read accounting records needed to calculate production recommendations, such as invoices, sales receipts, and item/product references. We do not request or store banking credentials, and we never write to your QuickBooks company.
- Usage data. Which pages you visit, used to understand which parts of the app get used, plus standard technical data such as IP address, browser type, and session cookies.
- Feedback you send us. When you use the in-app “Tell us” button, we receive your message, the page you were on, and the app version. That is all it sends — the app does not capture your screen, and it does not send us your recent activity in the app. It is emailed to our team and posted to our team messaging (Discord), and stored with the feedback record.
How we use information
We use your information to provide and operate the service (including the “what to make” calculations), authenticate you, provide support, secure the platform, and improve the product. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your QuickBooks data for advertising.
QuickBooks Online
If you connect QuickBooks Online, we access your accounting data through Intuit’s API solely to provide the features you request. Our access is limited to the scope you authorize, and you can revoke it at any time from within QuickBooks or by disconnecting the integration in Simple Industry. When you disconnect, we delete the stored access and refresh tokens. Our use of information received from Intuit APIs adheres to the Intuit Developer rules and best practices.
How we share information
We share information only with service providers that help us run Simple Industry, under agreements that limit their use of the data to providing services to us. These include cloud hosting and database providers (Vercel for the app, Render for the server, and Neon for the database), file storage (Cloudflare R2, for photos and documents you attach to a part, a material lot, or a job), Intuit/QuickBooks (for the connection you authorize), product analytics (PostHog, page visits only), transactional email (Resend), and team messaging (Discord), where feedback you send us through the app is delivered to our team. We may also disclose information if required by law. We do not sell personal information.
Data location and security
Data is processed and stored in the United States. We protect data with encryption in transit (TLS) and encryption at rest for sensitive secrets such as QuickBooks tokens (AES-256-GCM), tenant isolation between customer accounts, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
Data retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Some records are kept by design rather than aged out: feedback you send us is written to an append-only event log and we do not delete it on any schedule. You can request deletion of your account and associated data, which covers those records, and disconnecting QuickBooks removes the stored tokens for that connection.
Your choices
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us at the address below. You can disconnect QuickBooks at any time.
Children
Simple Industry is a business tool and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the “Last updated” date above.
